Kids Museum of Glass wins ICONIC Award
We are thrilled to announce our win for the Kids Museum of Glass at the ‘Iconic Awards 2015 – The whole world of architecture’. It is a real honour to be recognised alongside other well-known designers and to celebrate the project’s success. The award ceremony, presented by the German Design Council, acknowledges contemporary developments, as well as outstanding international design achievements. As one of the world’s most important centers for design, the German Design Council operates at the interface between designers and the construction industry, and for more than 60 years has been a pivotal institution for promoting cross-disciplinary design. It is from this established organization that the Kids Museum of Glass was selected by an international panel of expert judges as one of the top museum spaces to be completed this year.
Since opening its doors in January 2015, the museum has had a whopping 50,000 visitors and has received continual success both locally and abroad. We are delighted to have been featured in many international design publications such as Frame magazine, designboom, Archdaily and The Cool Hunter – all of whom have acknowledged the design’s imaginative and playful atmosphere. For just a small Museum located in Shanghai, it is a real testament to the forward thinking collaborators behind the project that it is now a famous destination world-wide.
It is no wonder really, given that the ‘Kids Museum of Glass’ is the first of its kind in China, and is the newest addition to the ever-growing G+PARK – a popular cultural destination in Shanghai. There is also an increasing demand for places such as the Kids Museum in today’s metropolitan cities, as people look towards a more diverse and culturally fulfilling lifestyle.
Tilman Thürmer, Vice President and Design Director of the G+PARK says: “We are proud of the success of our Kids Museum, especially because it adds value to the city of Shanghai, mainly by providing young families with the opportunity to have fun while learning, and to explore their creativity in an imaginative and engaging way.”
Alongside the main exhibition area, the Kids Museum also features a DIY Workshop, two Cafés, a Gift Shop and a Party Space. The public’s interest in the museum has been ongoing, and it is a real pleasure to see people enjoy this multifunctional venue in one of the world’s fastest growing cultural cities.
