Shared Planet is an immersive and interactive exhibition hall at the New Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. It presents Earth as an interconnected system and examines how human choices are changing it. It starts with biodiversity and the basic mechanisms that keep ecosystems in balance, moves into how science studies the planet, and then steps into the Anthropocene – where climate risk, resource pressure, and environmental change become part of everyday life. The visit ends with practical directions rather than slogans: low-carbon habits, circular materials, and technology that supports a more sustainable way of living.
COO led the design and the overall visitor experience for the hall, which spans 1,797 sqm. The spatial concept translates natural forms into a clear geometric language, using distinct colors and visual cues to guide movement through the four zones and the immersive moments in between. At the center, a large LED sphere runs the “Shared Planet” show, acting as a visual anchor and a recurring reminder that this is one system – dynamic, fragile, and shared. The aim is to make environmental issues feel concrete and socially relevant – not distant – and to leave visitors with a sense that the planet’s future is shaped by collective systems as much as individual action.
