Design wing unveiled in Shanghai’s most creative museum
Our latest instalment for Shanghai Museum of Glass Park is the new Design Wing, an extension of the Shanghai Museum of Glass. Connected by the Golden Fire Bridge, these two structures were officially unveiled in an opening ceremony on May 15, 2016.
Starting at the end of 2015, COO began imagining the perfect home for some of the museum’s most precious glass design pieces from their permanent collection. The final outcome is a beautifully minimalistic space, a light and pure design wing covering two floors and 2,100 sq. m in a repurposed industrial building. While the space remains bright and full of natural light for observing the designs, an art installation of mirrors and neon lights sits in the central staircase, a surprising twist for visitors.
Tilman Thürmer, Founder and Design Director, hopes the Design Wing will become a destination for creative people looking for inspiration in the Chinese metropolis: “Like art, design has a desire to communicate, and the expressions of glass are truly endless. Once inside the Design Wing, every visitor will have an incredible idea of all the things you can say with this extraordinary material.”
We are proud to continue working with one of China’s most creative museums since its inception in 2011. Shanghai Museum of Glass Park just celebrated its fifth anniversary.
